3.13.22 Bulletin & Announcements

Our Norman and Davenport Parish Congregations would like to welcome the Nipstad, Vikander, Botnen and Ostenson families as members of Norman Lutheran. God’s blessings to you. Welcome!

Garret Fenner Update….. Hello, Joan asked me to update you all on Garret. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I did put this small statement on our Fenner Benefit Fund Facebook page. We will be home more often after next week. Well, we finally moved out of the Ronald McDonald house. 1 year 10 days exactly🤪 We are home for the weekends and drive throughout the week. Our stops are in Minneapolis to Waterville (thanks a ton to my cousin and his wife) to Rochester to Minneapolis and home Friday afternoons. Garret is doing good, despite his disease, FSGS, has been back since transplant. We knew it had a 40-50% of recurring right away. He still does apheresis twice a week. The LDL treatments at Mayo will be finished next Wed. Unfortunately, it has not made a huge difference. We are trying to wean completely off apheresis to take his central line out. He really wants to swim and be a normal kiddo again. We know eventually he will need another transplant due to his disease scarring this new one 😞 But until then, we want to live as normal as possible. This FSGS is tough! Thank you for all your thoughts, prayers, and support ❤🙏💚 Thanks again! Alicia Fenner ***************************************************************************************

PRAYER OF THE DAY (ELW p. 150)

Let us pray. A brief silence is kept before the prayer.

God of the covenant, in the mystery of the cross you promise everlasting life to the world. Gather all peoples into your arms, and shelter us with your mercy, that we may rejoice in the life we share in your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

NEW MEMBER WELCOME – Norman

These families have found a home here, have heard God call them beloved, and feel beloved by this congregation. Now they seek to deepen their relationship and commitment to this church community.

WELCOMING PRAYER P: Almighty God, we thank you for the life journey that brought these families to join our church today. We celebrate the unique impact they will make here and already have made here, through their presence, gifts and talents. May this congregation offer support in times of trouble and rejoice with them always. May our church home strengthen their faith and deepen their discipleship. All this we pray in Christ’s Holy Name. Amen.

Minister: Let us pray, Loving God, give to these your beloved ones-- strength for life’s journey, courage in times of suffering, the comfort of faith, love that cannot die, laughter in the company of friends, and the hope of new life; through Jesus Christ, who makes us one. Amen.

SERMON

HYMN OF THE DAY Take Up Your Cross, the Savior Said (ELW 667) vs 3-4

Let us profess our faith through the words of the Apostles Creed:

CREED (ELW p. 152)

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.*

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

Drawn close to the heart of God, we offer these prayers for the church, the world, and all who are in need. A brief silence.

You gather the church into a community of mercy and grace. Unify Christians around the globe in efforts to proclaim good news even in the face of opposition and to protect those whose lives are imperiled by the gospel. Merciful God, receive our prayer.

You create the entire universe and call it good. Hinder those who would cause further destruction to our planet’s fragile ecosystems, and augment the calls of those who advocate for thoughtful stewardship of the earth’s resources. Merciful God, receive our prayer.

You raise up leaders committed to love and justice. Nurture in those who govern patience to receive criticism, openness to new ideas, and courage to change course when needed for the sake of the common good. Merciful God, receive our prayer.

You hear us when we cry to you. Attend to those expecting a child, and console those who have experienced miscarriage. Comfort veterans enduring post-traumatic stress. Shield those endangered by domestic violence. Uphold those who are ill or grieving. Merciful God,

receive our prayer.

You kindle faith that moves us into action. Guide children and adults preparing for baptism or confirmation. Empower Sunday school teachers, confirmation leaders, and parents who share their faith with younger generations. Give us all a renewed sense of vocation. Merciful God, receive our prayer.

Almighty God, be present in the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. Guide the discussion from death to life, from war to peace, from suffering to justice. Let the design of your great love shine on the waste of our wraths and sorrows, and give peace to these nations, their homes and their hearts. Merciful God, Receive our prayer.

You welcome us into your heavenly realm. We give thanks for those whose labors on earth are ended and who now rest with you. On the final day, gather all of us, with them, in your loving arms. Merciful God, receive our prayer.

Accept the prayers we bring, O God, on behalf of a world in need, for the sake of Jesus Christ. Amen.

OFFERING SONG: Thy Holy Wings (ELW 613)

OFFERING PRAYER:

Blessed are you, O God, maker of all things. Through your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts: ourselves, our time, and our possessions. Use us, and what we have gathered, in feeding the world with your love, through the one who gave himself for us, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

Amen.

SENDING

God blesses us and sends us in mission to the world. BLESSING (ELW p. 155) The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord’s face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and ☩ give you peace. Amen.

SENDING SONG: God Is Here (ELW 526) vs 3-4

DISMISSAL (ELW p. 155) Go in peace. Serve the Lord. Thanks be to God.
