1st Reading: Exodus 3:1–7
3 Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. 3 So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.” 4 When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” 5 “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father,[a] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God. 7 The Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.
Psalm: Psalm 111 (responsively)
Leader- 1 Hallelujah! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, in the congregation.
ALL-2 Great are your works, O Lord, pondered by all who delight in them.
3 Majesty and splendor mark your deeds, and your righteousness endures forever.
ALL- 4 You cause your wonders to be remembered; you are gracious and full of compassion.
5 You give food to those who fear you, remembering forever your covenant.
ALL- 6 You have shown your people the power of your works in giving them the lands of the nations.
7 The works of your hands are faithfulness and justice; all of your precepts are sure.
ALL- 8 They stand fast forever and ever, because they are done in truth and equity.
9 You sent redemption to your people and commanded your covenant forever; holy and awesome is your name.
ALL- 10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who practice this have a good understanding. God’s praise endures forever.
HYMN OF THE DAY: A Mighty Fortress is Our God #504 vs1-2 SERMON: Pastor Katie – Believe 4- Bible
READING: Matthew 4:1–11
4 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted[aby the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ 5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’ 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” 10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’ 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
