SHARING OF THE PEACE PRAYER OF THE DAY:
Let us pray. A brief silence is kept before the prayer.
ALL- Almighty God, your Son came into the world to free us all from sin and death. Breathe upon us the power of your Spirit, that we may be raised to new life in Christ and serve you in righteousness all our days, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Confession and Forgiveness (ELW p. 94).

Canticle of Praise
HOLY COMMUNION
LORD’S PRAYER - Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
Apostles’ creed - I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
CHILDREN’S MOMENT
Reading: Titus 2:11–13 11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,
Psalm: Psalm 130
LEADER- 1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord;ALL- 2 O Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.LEADER- 3 If you were to keep watch over sins, O Lord, who could stand?ALL- 4 Yet with you is forgiveness, in order that you may be feared. LEADER- 5 I wait for you, O Lord; my soul waits; in your word is my hope.ALL- 6 My soul waits for the Lord more than those who keep watch for the morning, more than those who keep watch for the morning.LEADER- 7 O Israel, wait for the Lord, for with the Lord there is steadfast love; with the Lord there is plenteous redemption.ALL- 8 For the Lord shall redeem Israel from all their sins.
HYMN OF THE DAY: Abide With Me #629 vs 1-3
GOSPEL: Luke 15:11-32
The holy gospel according to Luke. ALL- Glory to you, O Lord.
11 Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. 12 The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them. 13 “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
17 “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ 20 So he got up and went to his father.
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate. 25 “Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27 ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’
28 “The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. 29 But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’
31 “‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”
The gospel of the Lord. ALL- Praise to you, O Christ.
SERMON: Pastor Katie Kringstad – 24 Self Control

Prayers of Intercession
Reconciled by God’s mercy and sustained by God’s presence, let us pray for the world and its needs. A brief silence.
We pray for the church. Grant life and peace to all who gather in your name. Breathe into us so that we may share your message of forgiveness, hope, and love. Hear us, O God. ALL- Your mercy is great.
We pray for creation. Renew landscapes that have dried up, prosper the work of those who restore homes and habitats after natural disasters, and sustain places where biodiversity thrives. Hear us, O God. ALL- Your mercy is great.
We pray for the nations. Help leaders to act boldly for justice, free all who live in places of war and violence and bring them to places of safety. Hear us, O God. ALL- Your mercy is great.
We pray for all people in need. Take away the stone of poverty that weighs down so many. Console any who weep and heal all who are sick. Hear us, O God. ALL- Your mercy is great.
We pray for this assembly. Ready the hearts and spirits of all preparing to be baptized. Deepen our wonder at the mystery of your resurrection and life. Hear us, O God. ALL- Your mercy is great.
We offer our thanksgiving for all people who have died in faith. Give us faith to trust in your power to redeem and save and bring us up from our graves to life in you. Hear us, O God. ALL- Your mercy is great.
