SHARING OF THE PEACE
PRAYER OF THE DAY:
Let us pray. A brief silence is kept before the prayer.
ALL- Stir up our hearts, Lord God, to prepare the way of your only Son. By his coming nurture our growth as people of repentance and peace; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT CANDLES
Norman Lutheran – Cindy Norberg
Davenport Lutheran – Renee Flom
Candle Lighting Litany
LEADER- God of peace, you are the calm amid the storm. ALL- You shelter us from the chaos of the enemy.
LEADER- Come among us and fill our hearts with your peace. ALL- Cause our lives to reveal your peace to the world.
LEADER- You are the light of the world. ALL- A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
LEADER- Today, we light a candle for peace. As we wait for the birth of the one who has paid for our ransom, the one in whom we place our trust, we remember the peace of Christ.
ALL- Come, Lord Jesus.
Prayer LEADER- Let us pray, God of peace and change, sustain your people wherever they are. Pour out your peace into our hearts, that we might be anchors of peace in a world of chaos and difficulty. Strengthen us against the lures of busyness and doing too much, that we may remind ourselves and others of the true reason for Advent – the birth of Jesus. In whose Holy name we pray. ALL- Amen.
Confession and Forgiveness (ELW p. 94).
Kyrie – (ELW p.147)
Canticle of Praise
Holy Communion
LORD’S PRAYER - Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
APostles’ creed- I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.* On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
CHILDREN’S MOMENT – Prayer 1st Reading: 2 Kings 20:4-5 4 Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: 5 “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you.
Psalm: Psalm 66:17–20 (please read responsively)
LEADER- 17 I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue.
ALL- 18 If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; LEADER-19 but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer.
ALL- 20 Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me
HYMN OF THE DAY: Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem #279 vs. 1-2
GOSPEL: Luke 11:1–13 11 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” 2 He said to them, “When you pray, say: “‘Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread. 4 Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.’” 5 Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; 6 a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ 7 And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need. 9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 11 “Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
SERMON: Pastor Katie Kringstad – Believe 12– Prayer

Prayers of Intercession
In our waiting and watching, we come to you in prayer, O God, trusting your promise to renew the church, the nations, and the whole creation. A brief silence.
With wisdom and understanding, inspire the faithful around the world. Unite hearts and minds in work to address poverty, access to housing, and equity among peoples. God of grace, ALL- hear our prayer.
With counsel and might, move us to care for creation. As we dream of the day when all creatures will flourish alongside one another, guide us in ways humanity and all creation will mutually thrive. God of grace, ALL- hear our prayer.
With righteousness and faithfulness, encourage nations to live in harmony with one another. We pray for international student and teacher exchanges, for our partner churches, and for the shared mission of Lutheran World Relief and Lutheran Disaster Response. God of grace, ALL- hear our prayer.
With steadfastness and encouragement, strengthen those who have lost hope in the face of grief, depression, or disease. Renew the spirits of those recovering from surgery and medical procedures. God of grace, ALL- hear our prayer.
With welcome and hospitality, embolden us in our shared ministry to overcome all that divides. In acts of repentance, reconciliation, and reparation, may we serve in the way of Christ. God of grace, ALL- hear our prayer.
With joy and peace, we remember our ancestors in the faith. Fill us with the hope of the Holy Spirit now and into the ages of ages. God of grace, ALL- hear our prayer.
Draw near to us, O God, as we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy through Jesus Christ, Emmanuel. ALL- Amen.
OFFERING SONG: Word of God, Come Down to Earth #510 OFFERING PRAYER: (unison)
