NEW MEMBER WELCOME – Norman & Davenport
Pastor: We are here this morning to welcome these new members into the community which is Norman/Davenport Lutheran Church. We are not a building, but the gathered family of God. We are brothers and sisters in Christ, given this new identity through our baptism into Jesus’ death and resurrection. Today we welcome you as members of this family in the larger body of Christ.
And so we ask, do you desire to join the membership of Norman/Davenport Lutheran Church? If so please answer: “We do.”
I ask the congregation to stand and join in confessing our faith.
Do you believe in God the Father?
All: I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
Pastor: Do you believe in Jesus Christ?
All: I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
Pastor: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?
All: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen
Pastor: Having together confessed our faith in the Triune God, we now welcome you into the family of our congregation and into the ministry of the church. As active followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to spread his Good News.
All: We welcome you as brothers and sisters in Christ, and thank God for this unique opportunity to serve God and one another. May the God to whom we belong equip us for every good work that we do together in his name.
Pastor: Let us pray, Heavenly Father, as you called James and John, Simon and Andrew to fish for people, so you have called us to serve you with our own talents and resources. We thank you for bringing to us these new members of Norman/Davenport Lutheran Church. You have told us that wherever two or more are gathered in your name, there you are with them. Help us, we pray, to see and feel that presence and that others may come to know you through their interactions with us. We thank you for the life journey that brought these new members to join our church today. We celebrate the unique impact they will make here and already have made here, through their presence, gifts, and talents. May this congregation offer support in times of trouble and rejoice with them always. May our church home strengthen their faith and deepen their discipleship. All this we pray in Christ’s Holy Name. All: Amen

QUILT BLESSING WITH PARENTS
Presentation of the Quilts
Pastor- Dear friends in Christ, there was a day when your parents held you in their arms and rocked you to sleep. They cuddled you in a blanket to keep you warm, safe and comforted. Very soon you will be launching a new life, away from the safety and security of this home, family, church, and community. As you go out into the world, may this quilt be a reminder of your parent’s love and the nurture of this Christian Community.
(Parents stand with back to the altar and with child facing them, wrap quilt around child’s shoulders, leaving hands on shoulders while they repeat the blessing following Pastor’s prompts.)
Parent(s):
I come this day before God to bless you and thank Him for your life. You have given my life a deeper meaning and calling. Through you, I have experienced God’s love, joy, and forgiveness. Wherever you go, whatever you do, my love goes with you; you will always be part of my heart.
May this quilt remind you of the warmth of my love, the care of this faith community, and the comfort of the Holy Spirit. And on those nights when I cannot wrap you in my arms, wrap yourself in this quilt and know that in God’s family, you are never alone.
(Parents and graduates switch places. Parents hold quilts while graduate place hands on Parents’ shoulders to bless them by repeating these words after the pastor)
Graduate Addressing Parent(s):
You have given of your heart and of your home. You have loved and cared for me, even when it was difficult.
Today I honor and thank you for your courage, patience, wisdom, and love. Wherever I go and whatever I do, I will always be your child, blessed by your love. I thank God for blessing my life with you.
Pastor- The Lord be with you.
Congregation: And also with you.
Pastor: To ALL the Graduates of the class of 2025, everywhere, but to you especially our dear graduates, one part of your life’s journey is complete. You will soon prepare to begin another phase that will take you to unimaginable places. As you prepare for your next journey, we hope that you remember the ones you leave behind, who have loved and supported you throughout the years.

Reading: Revelation 22:17-21
17The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let everyone who hears say, "Come."
And let everyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift."
18I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book;" 19if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away that person's share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book." 20The one who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! 21The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen.

ALL- 4 Praise the Lord, heaven of heavens,
and you waters above the heavens.
5 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
who commanded, and they were created,
ALL- 6 who made them stand fast forever and ever,
giving them a law that shall not pass away.
7 Praise the Lord from the earth,
you sea monsters and all deeps;
ALL- 8 fire and hail, snow and fog,
tempestuous wind, doing God’s will;
9 mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars;
ALL- 10 wild beasts and all cattle,
creeping things and flying birds;
11 sovereigns of the earth and all peoples,
princes and all rulers of the world;
ALL- 12 young men and maidens,
old and young together.
13 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
whose name only is exalted, whose splendor is over earth and heaven.

the children of Israel, a people who are near the Lord. Hallelujah!
Hymn of the Day: Now the Green Blade Rises (ELW 379) vs 1-2
Gospel: Luke 24:44-53
The holy gospel according to Luke.
ALL- Glory to you, O Lord.
44Then he said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you — that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled." 45Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, 46and he said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, 47and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48You are witnesses of these things. 49And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."
50Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and, lifting up his hands, he blessed them. 51While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven. 52And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; 53and they were continually in the temple blessing God.
The gospel of the Lord.
ALL- Praise to you, O Christ.
