THIRD GRADE BIBLES

If our third-grade families would please come forward.

Presider: Today is such an important day for our third graders Reese Ostenson, Tori Swenson, Brekken Niemeyer, Turner Westby, Maverick Wilson, Dawson Hoy, And Colton McDowell. as well as their parents fulfill the promise made in baptism to place the Holy scriptures in their child’s hands.

Parents if you would please face your child with their Bible in your hands.

This Bible is a gift from your church family here at Norman Lutheran Church. Reese, Dawson, Tori, Turner, Maverick, Colton, and Brekken. receive the gift of this Bible so that the story of God and God’s people may be with you at home, church, or wherever you shall choose to carry it. Enjoy reading about how God is at work in the world, in nature, and in history. Learn about the life and teachings of Jesus. Be open to how God may continue to speak to you through your reading of the scriptures.

Parents, please place your child’s Bible in their hands, then place your hand on their head and let us pray:

Blessed be your name, O Lord our God, You are the fount and source of every blessing! You have revealed yourself to us your children in many diverse ways. Our memory of your revelation is in the Scriptures that these children hold in their hands. Look with delight upon these beautiful children today as they receive these Bibles to read and remember You in the stories of our salvation. Help them to absorb its wisdom and live its truth.

Walk with them and encourage them with the help of the Holy Spirit to use these sacred writings for inspiration, for the increase of faith and devotion, and for the building up of your Kingdom. Through your Word may we each be transformed into the very likeness of Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you forever and ever. Amen. Inside your Bible’s parents you will find a fun Bible worksheet that you and your child can complete at home to help learn how to navigate the Bible!

APOSTLES’ CREED (ELW p. 152)

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.*

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION

United with your saints across time and place, we pray for our shared world. A brief silence.

Holy One, your church rests on the faithful who came before us. Give bishops, pastors, deacons, and lay leaders the will to carry the church forward and discern your will for the future. Lord, in your mercy,

receive our prayer.

Holy One, the earth is yours and all that dwells within it. Care for places ravaged by natural disasters. Quell raging fires and halt destruction caused by flooding. Lord, in your mercy, receive our prayer.

Holy One, you raise up leaders to guide your people. Kindle in them a passion to care for others, a desire to seek the common good, and the courage to love their enemies. Lord, in your mercy, receive our prayer.

Holy One, you bless those who are poor, hungry, and reviled. Provide food, housing, and security to all who are vulnerable or in crisis. May those who have more than enough give generously. Lord, in your mercy, receive our prayer.

Holy One, hold us in community with one another. Nurture a spirit of abundant hospitality and intentional inclusion among us, welcoming the gifts of adults and children. Inspire creative visions for our life together. Lord, in your mercy, receive our prayer.

Holy One, we remember in thanksgiving all those who have died. Maxine Torgerson, Marlys Grindberg, Shirley Jermstad, Patricia Joyce, Dean Merhiy, Steve Trangsrud, Geraldine “Jeri” Ekstrom, Jim Kroshus, John Salveson, Loanne Thrane, Bruce Anderson, Bill Christmann, and Jesse Kramer

Wipe away our tears and comfort us with the promise of everlasting life in you. Lord, in your mercy, receive our prayer.

Accept these prayers, gracious God, and those known only to you; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
